Dave Kirby

Dave has been drumming for more than 30 years, including 25 years as a professional. He performed with corporate covers band Jellybean Jam for 10 years before turning Freelance. Artists Dave works with include The Chantoozies and Australian Idol runner up/Toyota Starmaker Winner Luke Dickens.

 

​He also performs and records with his own original band Soul Messengers who released a new album                             in 2017

and drums with various tribute shows including tributes to Fleetwood Mac,          ,       ,  Creedence Clearwater Revival and Crowded House.

 

Dave has performed and recorded with original artists SMLXL - who recently released the EP "Links" and singles "                                        " and "              " - and Sam Joole. He appears on 4 tracks on Sam's  release "Shapeshifting" and has recorded tracks for both artists forthcoming albums.

Dave's approach to drumset tuition draws on his 25 years plus of playing experience and ongoing studies. Focusing firstly on Musicianship, he incorporates Reading, Technique, Snare Drum Rudiments (& their application to the kit) as students progress. Dave addresses each student's needs and formulates a curriculum especially for them. 

 

Dave has successfully assisted students prepare for their HSC performance exams and auditions for Newtown Performing Arts HS.

Additionally, Dave continues his studies with renown Drummer, author and Educator

​

Our son Harry has had the privilege of working with Dave for 7 years, starting when he was only 7 years old.  Dave’s teaching style has always been the perfect balance of patience, encouragement and fun all the while instilling critical foundational drumming skills and techniques.  Under Dave’s guidance Harry has developed into a highly proficient and confident drummer who enjoys playing a range of different styles of drumming.  Dave has a fantastic aptitude for and commitment to teaching and even after all these years continues to challenge Harry as a drummer

My son Leon started learning drums with Dave Kirby when he was 8 years old and has continued to be a student of Dave’s for the last 8 years.

Dave is an exceptional teacher who follows the students musical interests to keep them engaged with learning technical skills and music theory.
